Rasmale’ Land Reclamation Project Completes Dredging of 101 Hectares

The land reclamation of the landmark Rasmale’ Project is progressing swiftly with 101 hectares of land reclaimed thus far, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said Sunday.

The Rasmale' Project will see the reclamation of a total 1,009 hectares of land which has been divided into a dozen sections.

Practical works pertaining to the Rasmale' Project officially commenced on 18 December 2023. Although the government initially planned to complete the land reclamation of Rasmale' within ten months, it revealed that adjustments were being brought to the plan following unforeseen challenges which caused delays.

HDC has contracted the dredging of these locations to Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited and China Railway Construction Corporation.

Providing the latest update of the reclamation work, HDC said out of the four sections assigned to the two firms, 101 hectares of land has been reclaimed as of 13 April.

A total of 378 hectares is scheduled to be reclaimed in the four sections.

HDC said the shore protection of the reclaimed land is set to commence in the coming days.

The Rasmale' project aims to provide a total of 65,000 housing units, transforming the area into an Eco City adhering to environmental standards.

Rasmale' is set to become the first zero-carbon city in the Indian Ocean. The government views this project as a transformative endeavor, both technologically and environmentally. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that the Rasmale' project will significantly advance the nation's housing and environmental sustainability goals.
