Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan, has issued a stern and unambiguous warning to drug traffickers, declaring the government’s renewed commitment to wipe out the drug trade that has plagued the Maldives for decades.
Speaking during a Parliament sitting on Tuesday, Minister Ihusan said the current administration has already made significant progress in its war against drugs, targeting trafficking networks through nationwide raids and large-scale arrests.
To bolster these efforts, the Minister said a new anti-drug law—soon to be enacted—will grant sweeping powers to authorities, intensifying the crackdown on drug-related crimes.
“We’ve sectorally divided the country to track and apprehend traffickers. Once the new legislation is passed, we will have the full legal authority to act without hesitation,” Ihusan said. “Look at Fuvahmulah City—we dismantled the largest drug network there. That’s just the beginning.”
Issuing a direct ultimatum to those involved in trafficking, the Minister urged them to abandon the illegal trade before the full force of the state comes crashing down on them.
He expressed confidence that this administration will deliver a decisive blow to the drug trade before the end of its term, vowing to reclaim the streets and restore safety to communities across the nation.
