Over 1,000 Road Accidents in First Three Months as Police Urge Caution

Over 1,000 road accidents have been reported in the capital Male’ region during the first three months of the year, Police have said.

According to the Police, a total 1,068 road accidents have been reported in the Male’ region between January and March this year.

There were 318 road accidents reported in January, 398 in February and 352 in March, Police said.

Offering a more clear breakdown, Police said 152 road accidents were reported in Male’in January while 145 accidents occurred in Hulhumale’. Two accidents occurred in Villimale with 19 accidents reported from the Velana International Airport (VIA), it added.

In February, 216 road accidents were reported from Male’, 169 in Hulhumale’, one in Villimale’ and a dozen from VIA.

There was no decline in road accidents in March either with 193 in Male’, 140 in Hulhumale’, one in Villimale’ and 18 in VIA, Police said.

Police have urged drivers to abide by road and traffic rules.
