President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has hailed Majeediyya School as the bedrock of structured education in the Maldives, describing it as the nation's most esteemed "garden of knowledge". His remarks, shared in a social media post, commemorated the institution's 98th anniversary.
The president reflected on the school's legacy, highlighting its profound impact on the country's educational landscape. He noted that its "regal shadow" has shaped generations, while its enduring "academic beacon" continues to guide Maldivian learning. Reaffirming its significance, he underscored how deeply the institution's legacy remains embedded in the national consciousness.
In his message, President Dr Muizzu also extended his best wishes to students, educators, administrators, and staff, both past and present, recognising their contributions to the school's success. To honour Majeediyya's traditions, his post concluded with verses from its anthem, paying tribute to its rich heritage.
Established on 19 April 1927 as Madrasat al-Salahiyya—later renamed Madrasat al-Saniyya in 1928—the school was founded under the initiative of Sultan Mohammed Shamsu'dheen III. The transition to Majeediyya School marked a pivotal moment in the development of formal education in the Maldives. Initially an all-boys institution, it became coeducational in 2011, broadening its reach and influence.
Now approaching its centennial in 2027, the school has already begun its 1,000-day countdown to the milestone. The government has pledged a grand commemoration, reaffirming Majeediyya's enduring role in shaping the nation's academic foundations.
