Maldives Prioritises Patient Safety in All Health Policies, Says Health Minister

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim has stated that the Maldives’ health policies are shaped with focus on patient safety. He made the statement while addressing at the 7th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety held in Manila, Philippines.

Speaking at the summit, Minister Nazim noted that special attention is paid to ensuring the safety of patients through the primary health care system in the Maldives. He emphasised the need to prioritise the safety of patients when formulating various health policies. He stated that all health policies in the Maldives would be guided by the principle of safeguarding patients.

The Minister further noted that advancements in patient safety can be pursued by utilising artificial intelligence and modern technology. In his address, he also shed light on the Maldives’ health system.

"The Maldives is working to enhance its health system by investing sustainably and with international assistance. While the Maldives is a country vulnerable to climate change, research is needed to develop a climate change resilient health system,” the Minister said.

Organised by the Department of Health of the Philippines, the Summit on Patient Safety is a ministerial level gathering bringing together global health leaders, experts and stakeholders to strengthen international efforts to improve health care quality and ensure patient safety. During the summit, ministers and healthcare professionals will assess progress in implementing the Global Patient Safety Action Plan (GPSAP) 2021-2030, discuss priority areas in patient safety, and explore solutions to address challenges to achieving them.
