President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended his congratulations to Television Maldives (TVM) on Thursday, marking the broadcaster's 47th anniversary and acknowledging its foundational role in shaping the media landscape of the country.
In a statement shared on social media, President Dr Muizzu expressed appreciation for the efforts of both current and former staff at TVM. He highlighted the broadcaster's unwavering service to the nation's media sector and conveyed his hopes for its continued success in the years ahead.
Since its establishment on 29 March 1978, TVM has stood as a pioneering force in the nation's broadcasting history. As the Maldives' first television channel, it now operates under the Public Service Media (PSM), the state's primary public broadcasting service.
Throughout its nearly five-decade journey, TVM has consistently embraced advancements in broadcasting technology while broadening the scope of its content. Its offerings have expanded to include a diverse range of entertainment, infotainment, and cultural programming, serving to both inform and engage its viewers.
Equally significant are TVM's contributions to journalism. The channel has been instrumental in covering pivotal events such as presidential and parliamentary elections, national celebrations, and urgent national crises, ensuring audiences stay updated during key moments in the country's history.
