President Dr Mohamed Muizzu unveils plans to launch over 550 developmental projects across the country within the next two months.
The initiative, encompassing all inhabited islands, according to the president, reflects the administration's commitment to addressing the diverse needs of its citizens and fostering equitable development.
The announcement was made during the inaugural episode of 'Rayyithunnaa Eku', a podcast introduced on Thursday as a direct channel for public engagement. The platform, designed to enhance transparency, provides an opportunity for the president to address concerns, share insights, and clarify governmental policies.
Building on this commitment to transparency, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the urgency of the initiative, noting that several projects are already being handed over to contractors. The administration, he said, remains steadfast in its resolve to ensure the swift execution of all 550 projects, which span a broad spectrum of developmental priorities.
Among these priorities is the establishment of children's parks and fitness centres on every inhabited island within the next two years, according to the president. The fitness centres will be equipped with sporting facilities, he added.
Re-iterating government's commitment to rapid development, President Dr Muizzu noted that these projects will be conducted with swiftly. He also reassured his administration's commitment to addressing public needs while maintaining economic stability and easing burdens on citizens.
The fisheries sector also featured prominently in the president's address. Acknowledging the challenges faced by fishermen in accessing affordable fuel, President outlined plans to ease this by establishing fuel storage and refuelling facilities in at least one island in each atoll. These facilities, he said, aim to ensure fuel availability at affordable and consistent rates, as provided by the State Trading Organisation (STO) in Malé City.
President Dr. Muizzu has declared 2025 and 2026 as transformative years, promising unprecedented socio-economic development like never before. This vision is underscored by a significant portion of this year's budget dedicated to these initiatives.
