Maldives National Defence Force, MNDF on Monday airlifted to Male’ a diver suffering from decompression sickness.
Ziad Mohamed, from Faresmaathodaa Island, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, fell ill while diving for sea cucumber and was taken to Thinadhoo Dr Abdu Samadhu Memorial Hospital last night.
The 29-year old was brought to Male’ Monday morning by MNDF Kurangi Helicopter and was rushed to the recompression chamber at Bandos Island Resort.
According to MNDF, Ziad had done three dives without a break to depths of around 40 to 45 metres.
MNDF says diving accidents related to sea-cucumber fishing are increasing in the country.
