Pakistan Day has been celebrated in the Maldives, with various activities organised by the Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives.
As part of the celebrations, a special flag-hoisting ceremony was held on Tuesday, attended by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Lodhi and several Pakistani citizens residing in the Maldives.
Following the flag raising ceremony, a special Iftar was hosted, graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr Abdulla Khaleel. Several cabinet ministers, state ministers, government and some corporate officials were attendees at the event, along with a large number of Pakistanis living in the Maldives.
Speaking after the Iftar, Foreign Minister Khaleel thanked Pakistan for its assistance to the Maldives across various fields, including social, economic, health, education and defence sectors. He expressed hope to further strengthen the bilateral ties between both countries.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives said that the relationship between the two countries is built upon shared religious and cultural principles,mutual respect, and trust. He said the two countries have strengthened its relations with each other over the past years and expanded cooperation in various fields. The High Commissioner said he was working with the relevant ministries to enhance collaboration further.
Pakistan commemorates Pakistan Day to mark the adoption of the first Constitution of Pakistan during the transition to the Islamic Republic. Pakistan's first constitution was drafted on 23 March, 1956.
