The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced an extensive plan to host large-scale congregational prayers at four prominent venues in Malé City in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
These mass prayer gatherings, deeply rooted in Maldivian tradition, are a defining feature of both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The upcoming Eid prayers will bring worshippers together at four central locations in the capital—Maafannu Stadium, Villimalé Football Grounds, Hulhumalé Synthetic Track, and the cricket grounds in Phase II of Hulhumalé. In addition to these large-scale events, the ministry has said, prayers for Eid al-Fitr will also be conducted at 27 mosques throughout Malé City.
The timing of Eid prayers will continue to follow the adjusted schedule introduced last year, according to the ministry, with congregations beginning at 7:00 a.m. instead of the traditional 7:30 a.m. This change, aimed at alleviating discomfort caused by rising morning temperatures, reflects the ministry's consideration for children, women, elderly individuals, and people with special needs.
According to the official calendar, Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on 31 March, concluding the holy month of Ramadan and ushering in a period of joyous celebration across the country.
