There has been over 5,700 enrolments for Grade 1 for the upcoming new academic year, the Ministry of Education has said.
The Ministry in October last year had announced the opening of applications for enrolment in Lower Kindergarten (LKG), Upper Kindergarten (UKG), and first grade at government schools for the 2025 academic year.
Speaking to PSM News’ ‘Raajje Miadhu’ programme, Ali Mufeed, the incharge of school administration, said the admission of children to grade 1 was conducted in two phases. The first phase was for new first graders and the second phase was for children looking to switch school districts.
Mufeed said more than 5,700 students have been admitted to grade 1, while about 2,000 students have been given opportunities in schools in the capital Male’ area. Admissions to grade 1 was completed in December last year and orientations have been held in some schools, he added.
"All the information such as the child's class and index number has been shared through the schools. Many schools have already conducted orientation programmes,” Mufeed explained.
Most of the schools in the Atolls teach from LKG to grade 10, he pointed out, adding that orientations have also been held for the new admissions to such schools.
Mufeed said some rare requests by parents to repeat children in grade 1 or LKG due to their age have also been accommodated.
