The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has urged to include detailed documentational evidence to back complaints regarding the revised list of Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme’s flat recipients.
The former administration, led by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), initiated the development of 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. However, the project remained incomplete at the end of the term. Ahead of the conclusion of then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term, the government released a final list of flat recipients. However, after a case was filed regarding the list, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) revealed that only 20 percent of the listed recipients met eligibility criteria. The discovery by the ACC forced the current Administration to conduct a thorough review of the recipients list.
Following the review, the government published a revised list identifying both eligible and ineligible applicants on 27 February. While complaints submission has now been opened for the list, the deadline for submission is until the end of March before it was extended until 15 April.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Ibrahim Nazeem said one of the most common issues highlighted during the complaint process is the lack of opportunity to submit additional documents.
However, the Ministry will look into the details of the documents and the person's situation in detail, he said, urging people to submit their complaints in as much detail as possible.
"The information submitted should be verifiable through government agencies. It is important to submit as detailed information as possible. The remarks were initially limited to 1,500 words but have been increased to 3,000 and now 5,000 words can be submitted," he explained.
According to the Ministry, 1,820 applicants are eligible to receive flats from the 4,000 flats available under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. From the 3,271 people who were on the previous recipient list for three bedroom flats, only 1,423 individuals were deemed eligible, scoring above 75 points. For two bedroom flats, of the 1423 people previously declared eligible, only 397 individuals qualified, scoring above 73 points.
