Faseeh Appointed as Immigration Chief Following Waheed's Dismissal

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Faseeh, a retired Commissioner of Police, as the Controller General of Immigration. The appointment, confirmed by Heena Waleed, Chief Spokesperson for the President's Office, elevates Faseeh to a state minister-level position.

This leadership change follows the dismissal of Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, who previously held the post. The government has not disclosed the reasons for Waheed's removal, but the timing aligns with an ongoing investigation by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) into allegations of misconduct within Maldives Immigration.

The inquiry has brought to light accusations that several immigration officials exploited their positions to illicitly profit from migrant workers. As part of the investigation, police searched a residence linked to the alleged scheme on Thursday evening. According to the MPS, the operation resulted in the detention of three individuals, whose identities remain undisclosed.

Additional details of the case will be provided as the investigation unfolds, police have said.
