Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar has assured that the government will consider several areas related to happiness of the people when determining the happiness index in the Maldives.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration initiated the process of establishing a 'Happiness Index' to measure the well-being of the people of the Maldives during the first year of his presidential term.
In his message to PSM News on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, Minister Adam Shareef development of the country's 'Happiness Index' is progressing swiftly, adding that several aspects in the lives of the people that are associated with joy and happiness will be taken into consideration.
According to the Minister, the government will ask people how happy they are in each of these aspects.
"These include following the principles of Islam and prioritising economic growth and productivity, health and wellness, environment, sustainable development, use of technology, media, revival of culture and tradition, establishing an environment of peace and security and working for social unity,” he explained.
The Ministry as the lead agency has planned several initiatives including exchanging gift packs, greeting cards and flowers to celebrate this year’s International Day of Happiness.
In addition, Television Maldives (TVM) has also launched a campaign for the public to send in videos that bring happiness through kindness and compassion, the Ministry said.
This year's International Day of Happiness will be celebrated with the assistance of Happiness Index partners TVM, Dhiraagu, MaldivesPolice Service, Ooredoo Maldives, VB Mart and other well-wishers.
