The country requires more religious scholars specialized in Qira'at of the Quran, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of MaldivesDr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed says.
In Islam, Qira'at, which literally means the readings, terminologically means the method of recitation. Dr. Shaheem said the country has a very few number of scholars specialized in the field of Islamic and Quranic Studies. Islamic University is working to provide opportunities for scholars to pursue specialised studies in different fields of religion and the Quran, he said.
He said IUM is working to introduce PHD programmes in Islamic Fiqh and other religion and Quran related fields. Local scholars who studied from Madinah University in Saudi Arabia and Egypt’s Al-Azhar University are making extra efforts to spread religious education and awareness in the country.
