Sri Lanka Determined to Strengthen Maldives Ties for a Brighter Future

Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with neighbours Maldives for a “brighter future” for both nations.

President Dissanayake made these remarks after meeting Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel on Thursday evening.

He thanked Minister Dr Khaleel for his kind words about the electoral victory and the positive changes in Sri Lanka.

“Together, we will strengthen our bilateral relations for a brighter future,” President Dissanayake said.

During the meeting Minister Dr Khaleel conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the people of Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dr Khaleel highlighted the key aspects of the Maldives - Sri Lanka relations and expressed keen interest of the Maldives government to explore new avenues to collaborate further to strengthen the close bonds of friendship between the two countries.

“On behalf of President Dr. Muizzu and the people of Maldives, Minister Khaleel expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Government and people of Sri Lanka for the kind support and assistance rendered to the developmental efforts of Maldives at all times,” the Ministry said.

Minister Dr Khaleel ended his four day official visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of H.M. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka on Friday.

In addition to President Disanayake, Minister Dr Khaleel had also met the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya during his visit.

On Wednesday, Minister Dr Khaleel and his Sri Lankan counterpart Herath held official talks, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring collaborations.

Minister Dr Khaleel had also met with the Maldivian community in Sri Lanka and the private sector of Sri Lanka to explore opportunities to enhance collaboration in various sectors.
