Maldives and Sri Lanka Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herat held official talks on Wednesday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring collaborations.

During the talks held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, both Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to boost the historical and multi-faceted relations that exist between both countries. The discussions focused on exploring further collaboration in areas of education, trade and investment, environment and climate change, fisheries, youth empowerment, vocational training and consular issues. 

In addition, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together both regionally and multilaterally on issues of mutual concern and interest.  

Minister Dr Khaleel expressed heartfelt gratitude for the continuous support provided by the Sri Lankan government towards the socio-economic and human resource development of the Maldives. Both Ministers noted with satisfaction that bilateral cooperation between the two countries has expanded over the years and expressed hope that it will continue to flourish in the years to come. 

Minister Dr Khaleel invited his counterpart to visit the Maldives at mutual convenience.
