Germany advance to Euro 2016 semi-finals

Germany defeats old rivals Italy 6-5 in a penalty shootout at Euro 2016 with a winning spot kick from Jonas Hector after the game finished 1-1 following extra-time to reach the semi-finals.

They will now face the winners of the other quarter-final between hosts France and Iceland, who play tonight.

Germany fans who had made the trip to Bordeaux were overjoyed as the world champions held their nerve in the penalty shootout.

Meanwhile, uncapped France centre-back Samuel Umtiti is set to replace the suspended Adil Rami, while midfielder N'Golo Kante also serves a one-game ban.

If France opt for the 4-3-3 formation they began with against the Republic of Ireland then Yohan Cabaye is likely to replace Kante.

Iceland may be unchanged for a fifth successive game.

Nine of Iceland's likely starting line-up begin on a booking - and another caution would rule them out of a potential semi-final.
