Preparations are being made to commence cardiac procedures and surgeries at its recently opened National Cardiac Centre, says Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
IGMH said theatres to be used for cardiac surgeries are currently being developed.
Acting Medical Director and Senior Consultant at IGMH Dr. Ali Latheef said the hospital has specialised local doctors capable of performing cardiac procedures and surgeries. Currently, preparations are underway to set up specialised theater for such procedures, he said.
IGMH introduced angiogram and angioplasty services on Friday. These procedures are made available through the newly developed Catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab), established in the hospital withassistance from India’s Meditrina Hospital. At present, the hospital employs 3 cardiologists, and is providing all necessary heart-related tests, it said.
Around 15 to 20 patients fly abroad every month to undergo cardiac procedures and surgeries on the recommendation of IGMH.
