Maldives to Enhance Education with High-Tech Solutions, Says President Dr Muizzu

In a geographically diverse island nation like the Maldives, ensuring quality education requires the integration of high-end e-learning resources, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated. He conveyed this message through a social media post on the occasion of the International Day of Education.

In his message on the occasion, President Dr Muizzu emphasised that, "we recognise the significance of education in empowering individuals through the power of knowledge." He further noted, "This year’s theme of the day, 'AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation,' underscores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in our education system, while maintaining our human essence."

In this contemporary era, President Dr Muizzu remarked, "it is now a necessity for technology and education to align and integrate effectively." Highlighting the importance of technological advancements, President Dr Muizzu stated that his administration aims to incorporate high-end e-learning resources, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality into the educational system to chart a brighter pathway for our future generations.

"The Maldives educational system is integrating digital technology into curriculums through digitising textbooks and implementing a competency-based hybrid learning model," he stated. "In addition, enhancing STEAM education to spark young minds is of significant importance to the Maldives."

Acknowledging the critical role of education today, President Dr Muizzu expressed gratitude to educators and individuals within the educational continuum, both nationally and internationally, for their dedication to fostering skills through the education of children and youth.

Concluding his message, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to ensuring that every child in the country receives quality education that nurtures young minds, instills values, promotes creativity, and prepares them for an ever-evolving world.

The administration is presently making substantial efforts to advance and enhance the technology sector. As such, President Dr Muizzu recently announced the administration's objective to digitalise both the education and healthcare sectors.

President Dr Muizzu recently conducted an official visit to Estonia at the invitation of Estonian President Dr Alar Karis. During the visit, discussions with Estonian government officials and institutions focused on seeking Estonia's assistance in advancing President Dr Muizzu's vision for digital transformation.

As part of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Estonian Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs to support and collaborate on the Maldives' digital transformation vision. The agreement aims to foster cooperation in information technology, artificial intelligence, smart technologies, and cybersecurity sectors.

The International Day of Education is observed globally on 24 January.
