The government is aiming to expand the 'Haalu Kihineh?' programme nationwide this year, Ministry of Social and Family Development revealed Saturday.
The initiative launched in May last year involves visiting residents across all islands in the Maldives to assess their well-being, identify individuals in need, and provide necessary services.
Providing the latest updates on the initiative on a programmed aired on PSM News, Deputy Minister of Social and Family Development Nazeeha Ahmed said Ministry officials have visited over 10,000 households in Hulhumale’ and 14 different Atolls and inquired about the well-being of its residents.
"We believe it's a great achievement to visit 10,000 households and families in seven months. Through this program, we have been able to identify and maintain records of those who require assistance,” Nazeeha explained.
According to Nazeeha, the programme has been largely well-received by the public, as they can share their concerns and grievances directly with officials of the Ministry.
"We notice that they also very much accept and appreciate this. Ministry officials directly visit families to see how their living conditions are, what their concerns are, what they need help with. They really appreciate this initiative. And we have not got any negative feedback yet,” she added.
Nazeeha said, this year, the Ministry aims to expand the programme to the whole country. In light of the information gathered by visiting families, a seminar will be held with all relevant stakeholders to identify ways to work together, she said.
"When we can take the programme nationwide, we intend to hold a seminar to share the issues and concerns we receive to the relevant stakeholders. In addition, this year's activities will identify ways to enhance the assistance provided to families in need,” Nazeeha explained.
The ministry is working closely with public service institutions, relevant agencies, atoll councils, local island councils, and WDCs, to conduct the programme. The goal is to visit every household in the Maldives within a year to identify individuals requiring special assistance from the state. Individuals requiring immediate help can also contact the ministry's call centre at 1433. The ministry's teams will continue household visits to provide necessary assistance.
The 'Haalu Kihineh?' programme initially began in Hulhumale'. In alignment with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision of fostering a compassionate society, the programme aims to strengthen relationships and build trust between the government and the citizens.
