President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has lauded the transparent governance of Estonia, insisting that the island nation can learn important lessons from the Northern European nation.
Before concluding his historic official visit to Estonia, President Muizzu on X said the progress the two nations achieved together during the visit remains highly encouraging.
He also hailed the visit as a new era of bilateral cooperation, reaffirmed by the myriad of productive meetings and the MoUs signed on digitalisation, environment, and political consultation.
“Estonia’s innovative digital transformation is a global benchmark for efficient and transparent governance, and the Maldives is grateful for this opportunity to learn from you,” President Muizzu said.
“Enhancing Maldives’ digital governance is a priority of my government and, therefore, the highlight of this visit.”
The trip, made at the invitation of Estonian President Dr Alar Karis, marks the first time a Maldivian president has visited the Baltic nation.
During the trip, President Dr Muizzu engaged in multiple discussions with key Estonian leaders including Estonian President, the President of the Parliament, Ministers, the Mayor of Tartu, representatives from Academia, and other prominent institutions in Estonia. These meetings focused on aligning strategies and exploring avenues for collaboration.
The President extended heartfelt gratitude for the government and people of Estonia, especially President Dr Karis, for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and the Maldivian delegation.
