President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Estonia on Monday for an official visit, following an invitation extended by Dr Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia. He was received upon his arrival in Estonia by senior officials of the Estonian government.
A special ceremony will be held on Monday in honour of President Dr Muizzu at the Presidential Palace of Estonia, where President Karis will officially welcome President Dr Muizzu, further solidifying the diplomatic ties between Estonia and the Maldives.
Accompanying President Dr Muizzu is a high-level delegation, which includes prominent representatives from the Maldives' technology sector. The visit is poised to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Estonia, with a particular focus on digital innovation, cybersecurity, e-governance, climate and environmental issues, and advancements in science and education.
Throughout his visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with several prominent figures of the Estonian government. This includes a meeting with the Speaker of the Estonian Parliament, Lauri Hussar, along with other senior officials. President Dr Muizzu will also hold discussions with notable ministers, including Kristina Kallas, Minister of Education and Research; Yoko Alender, Minister of Climate; Riina Sikkut, Minister of Health; Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs; and Jonatan Vseviov, Secretary-General of Foreign Affairs.
During his stay, President Dr Muizzu and his delegation will engage in a series of high-level meetings and engagements aimed at fostering collaboration in these key areas. The primary objective of this visit is to lay the groundwork for the digital transformation envisioned by President Dr Muizzu.
The president's itinerary also encompasses a visit to Tartu, Estonia's second-largest city, renowned for its academic and scientific institutions. Mayor Urmas Klaas will extend a warm welcome to President Dr Muizzu.
During his stay in Tartu, President Dr Muizzu will tour prominent institutions, notably the University of Tartu, acclaimed for its excellence in clinical medicine and research. He will also visit the Estonian Genome Center, a leading facility in genetic research, and the Greenergy Data Centers, a state-of-the-art establishment dedicated to sustainable data solutions.
Throughout his tenure, President Dr Muizzu has been a staunch advocate for digital transformation, both domestically and on the international stage. He has consistently sought partnerships with nations that share a commitment to building a digital and sustainable future.
