President Dr Muizzu hailed the occasion as “an historic day in the aviation sector of the country.”
In his address, President Dr Muizzu underscored his electoral commitment to introduce two wide-body aircraft for Island Aviation Services Ltd.—the operator of Maldivian. “I committed to introducing two wide-body aircraft for Island Aviation [Services Ltd.] and initiating their operations. Today, we have successfully delivered the first aircraft,” he stated.

"In October this year, the second aircraft will commence operations. I can assure you of this. Relevant ministries are diligently working to ensure the flights begin as scheduled," President Dr Muizzu asserted.
The expansion of Maldivian's operations through the introduction of wide-body aircraft is anticipated to significantly enhance the country's tourism industry. President Dr Muizzu remarked, “The development of the national flag carrier will lead to significant advancements in both the tourism and aviation sectors.” He further highlighted that the New Year 2025 marks the beginning of numerous developmental initiatives across various sectors planned by the administration.
