“Feels Like Family,” Maldives Welcomes First Tourist of 2025

Maldives has welcomed the first tourist of the year, at a small ceremony held at the country’s main airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) on Wednesday.

The first tourist of the year, Luis from Spain arrived with his wife and daughter and described Maldives as his “second home” with a family like love for the island nation.

This is the 11th time the Luis family has holidayed in the Maldives.

Their love for our ocean, sand, and people makes today even more special for the family from Spain.

Maldives, globally renowned for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters gets a lot of repeat visitors primarily because of the gracious hospitality of locals in the industry.

Maldives, for the first time in its 52 year tourism history, welcomed over two million tourists to its shores in 2024.

The government has now set sights to add 15 percent more to the record number this year.
