Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that 28 individuals have successfully completed Quran memorisation (hifz) this year and completed their hifz examinations.
In a message shared with local media, Minister Shaheem said several individuals completed their Hifz journey this year and requested evaluations to test their memorisation. Of these, 28 Hafizes have completed their examination, with three other individuals currently in the evaluation process. Two other individuals have also made requests to begin the evaluation process.
Noting that many of the Hafizes in the Maldives are young children, the Minister revealed that a five-year-old had by-hearted the entire Quran this year, and is continuing with regular revisions.
The government gives high priority to build a society where members are familiar with Islamic principles. Several efforts have been undertaken to increase community interest and engagement in Islam.
The government recognizes those who successfully complete their Hifz journey with special medals and certificate. Between October 2022 and end of September this year, 28 individuals have received the rewards.
In a recent initiative, the government announced plans to sponsor Umrah pilgrimage for those who memorize the Quran. The first recipient of this opportunity is Ali Raeef.
