The 29 people evacuated to temporary shelters in the devastating fire in a government building have all returned home after the necessary repairs, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said Monday.
The fire, which broke out on 12 December, devastated the building housing the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. The adjacent Green Building, home to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, was also damaged in the incident.
Following the incident, over two dozen people living around the vicinity of the building were evacuated to temporary shelters.
According to NDMA, 29 people including 15 men and 14 women from three different residential buildings had to be moved to temporary shelters. NDMA said in addition to the five people who were allowed to return home last week, the remaining 24 had also returned home on Sunday.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident while the three ministries have been temporarily set up at the convention centre, Dharubaaruge.
