Any attempt to exert political pressure on the state fisheries company, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) operations will be met with immediate action, CEO Dr Vitaliy Lyubimov warned Thursday.
MIFCO in a statement said the CEO who was appointed on 10 December made a significant leadership appointment, naming Ahmed Nasir as the new General Manager of the Human Resources Department.
Nasir, with his extensive experience and expertise in human resources management, was deemed the ideal candidate to lead the department during this pivotal time for the company, the statement said.
However, the statement said attempts were made by external political forces to influence the selection process, advocating for the appointment of another candidate.
“This represents the first instance of unauthorized political interference in the operational activities of MIFCO under the new CEO’s leadership,” the company said, adding that the lobbied candidate was ultimately rejected.
According to the statement, Dr Lyubimov made it clear that any future political interference or attempts to influence MIFCO's management would not be tolerated.
"Any attempt to exert political pressure on the company’s operations will be met with immediate action," Dr. Lyubimov said.
"There will be zero tolerance for such interference, and I will ensure full transparency by sharing the identities of those attempting to influence the company."
The CEO's firm stance reflects his commitment to maintaining a professional and independent management structure at MIFCO, free from external political pressures.
He also reiterated the competence and responsibility of the current management team, emphasising their qualifications to drive sustainable development within the fisheries sector.
