Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef underscored the significance of integrating modern technological advancements to further promote and develop the fishery sector. This statement was made in a social media post commemorating National Fishermen’s Day, celebrated annually on 10 December.

In his message, Vice President Latheef commended the dedication and hard work of local fishermen, recognising their crucial contribution to the nation’s economy. He also noted that the fishery sector continues to be regarded as the cornerstone of the country’s economic structure.

Noting the necessity for progress, Vice President Latheef underscored the critical role of adopting the latest technologies to advance the industry. He also conveyed his aspirations for a prosperous future for the fishery sector, offering prayers to Almighty Allah for the progress of the industry.

The observance of Fishermen’s Day honours the dedication of fishermen and addresses the challenges they encounter. As the nation commemorates this day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration reaffirms its commitment to resolving the concerns of local fishermen and promoting the advancement of the sector.

Among the administration’s notable achievements are efforts to clear the backlog of outstanding payments owed to fishermen. In line with President Dr Muizzu’s electoral pledge, measures have been implemented to ensure that fishermen receive payment within 48 hours of selling their catch.
