An agreement to facilitate the donation was signed between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRC). Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and QRC Secretary General, Faisal Mohammed Al-Madi.
The Islamic ministry stated that the USD 100,000 donation will be disbursed in two instalments to the Qatar Red Crescent Society. The funds will be utilised for QRC’s project aimed at providing clean drinking water to residents of Gaza.
This marks the first time that assistance from the Maldives Zakat Fund has been extended beyond the country.
The Maldivian government has been actively supporting Palestinian Muslims through various initiatives, including TV telethons and fundraising campaigns. In a symbolic move, the government has also banned the entry of Israeli passport holders into the Maldives, reaffirming its solidarity with Palestine.
