Police removing vehicles blocking pedestrians on the roads

As part of the "Green City" initiative, launched under the President's directive to enhance safety on city streets, Maldives Police Service (MPS) is removing illegally parked vehicles impeding public service on the roads.

Chief Inspector of Police and Head of Tow Facility Management, Ali Musthafa, stated in an interview with PSM News that police will assess whether vehicles are parked in areas obstructing public access and will also identify older vehicles for removal. He emphasized that vehicles impeding public services will be prioritized for towing.

The current congestion on roads has made walking and driving increasingly difficult, contributing to a rise in accidents and instances of reckless driving. To combat these issues, the Maldives Police are enhancing their presence in high-traffic areas to maintain order and prevent incidents.

In addition to vehicle removal, the project aims to alleviate traffic congestion through regulatory changes. Efforts are also underway to develop new parking facilities, with plans for 15 parking buildings in Hulhumale' that will accommodate up to 4,000 vehicles.
