The ruling party; People's National Congress (PNC) has stated that the reform policies utilised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will prove to become a transformative endavour, opening a new chapter of democracy in the Maldives.
In a statement released commemorating the International Democracy Day, PNC criticised previous administrations for failing to implement necessary administrative reforms since the democratic system was introduced to the Maldives 16 years ago. The party, however, commended President Dr. Muizzu’s reform efforts, which aim to address these deficiencies. Notably, PNC highlighted legislative amendments introduced under the president's leadership, such as the biannual holding of by-elections and ensuring the current number of parliamentarians does not increase. The party believes these changes will improve the functioning of the political system and enhance governance over time.
Furthermore, PNC praised the measures implemented by President Dr. Muizzu, aiming to enhcance and strengthen the characteristics of the Maldivian state outlined in the Constitution, ever since he took office. The party lauded the "Maldives First" policy introduced by the president and his commitment to ensuring that the judiciary remains free from political influence. PNC expressed confidence in the president's initiatives to bolster the decentralization system and enable councils to generate revenue.
Moreover, PNC also noted that President Dr. Muizzu exemplifies a commitment to ending long-standing hatred and political revenge, advocating for transparent solutions to national issues. The party emphasised that the president effectively demonstrates how to foster a democratic environment while upholding Islamic values through both his words and actions.
The statement released by PNC indicated the party's full confidence in President Dr. Muizzu, highlighting that his efforts to maintain a healthy competitive environment while ensuring good governance are yielding positive results. The party believes that the president's policies are set to bring about groundbreaking and transformative changes.
