Malaysian Airlines is set to resume flights to the Maldives, starting from August 1. The daily flights will be operated using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a seating capacity of 174 passengers.
A special ceremony is planned to welcome the inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Velana International Airport (VIA). The event will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), as well as dignitaries from Malaysia Airlines.
Malaysia is a popular destination for many Maldivians, and similarly, the number of Malaysian tourists visiting the Maldives has been on the rise. Last year alone, the Maldives welcomed over 13,000 tourists from Malaysia.
Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, halted its flights to the Maldives in 2017.
