Health ministry extend specialist appointment times at regional hospitals

The Ministry of Health has announced an increase in appointment times for specialist doctors at five regional hospitals across the country, beginning this month. This expansion will see specialist services offered during two sessions each day, rather than just the standard daytime hours.

Starting July 1, 2024, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital will extend its specialist appointment times. Beginning July 15, 2024, Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, Gan Regional Hospital, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, and Addu Equatorial Hospital will also increase their appointment hours.

Previously, specialist services were available from 0900hrs to 1600hrs. With the new schedule, these hospitals will offer specialist visits from 1600hrs to 1900hrs or 2200hrs, effectively doubling the availability of specialist care.

The Ministry of Health notes that this increase in appointment times will significantly benefit island communities by providing greater access to specialized medical care.
