Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has underscored the pivotal role that Councils play in controlling viral infections such and Dengue Fever and Chikungunya. The remarks were made during a media address, focusing on the works of the ministries.
During the media address, Minister Adam shed light on the concerning surge in diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. The minister stressed the significance of strengthening the provision of essential medical services by the primary health care of the councils, following the spread of Dengue Fever and Chikungunya. He emphasised that the provision of adequate health care is important for all. Highlighting that several challenges were observed following the official visits of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the atolls, the minister affirmed that efforts are underway to address such issues.
Councils are responsible to ensure the provision of primary health care and essential medical services, under the Decentralisation Act.
