Shujau returns to Parliament with a record vote count

Ibrahim Shujau has secured the seat with record number of votes in the parliamentary elections.

Shujau served as a parliamentarian representing Baarah constituency from 2014 to 2019. Regardless of not being elected in 2019, Shujau secured the same position with a record number of votes, as shown by the preliminary results publicised. As such, 2,442 out of the 3,483 individuals eligible to vote for the constituency cast their votes for Shujau. It contributes to 83.46% of those eligible to vote for the constituency.

While three candidates contesting for the seat, the candidate who scored the highest number of votes after Shujau received 468 votes. It contributes to 15.99% of the individuals eligible to vote for the constituency.

With the historic victory, Shujau holds the distinction of being the candidate who garnered the highest number of votes in parliamentary elections. In 2019, the most number of votes were scored by Ibrahim Nazil, contesting for the South Hithadhoo constituency. The number of votes Nazil received mounts to 1,930.

However, it can be observed that Shujau's vote count is significantly higher than that of Nazil's.
