The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop hospitals in Alifushi in Raa Atoll, Manadhoo in Noonu Atoll and Muli in Meemu Atoll.
The government has decided to establish hospitals in Manadhoo and Muli with a capacity of 50 beds. The developmental initiative, worth USD12 million each, aims to renovate the old hospital buildings in the islands. The development of a hospital in Alifushi targets to alleviate the burden of travelling to the Regional Hospital situated in Ungufaaru, Raa Atoll, for medical treatments. The hospital, with a capacity of 30 beds, is valued at USD 8.3 million and is to be completed within a timeframe of 730 days.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of State for Health Ahmed Gasim highlighted the infrastructural damages of the current hospitals in Manadhoo and Muli. He observed space constraints and other damages hindered the services that are provided by the hospital. He further assured that the establishment of three new hospitals on the designated islands would address the obstructions due to space limitations, ensuring quality services while serving as a huge convenience to the islanders.
The new hospitals being developed will be established with numerous facilities and advancements such that it continues operations regardless of global situations and shocks. The hospitals will be developed along with a flu clinic, isolation facilities and solar PV systems aiming to reduce utility expenses. Additionally, the hospitals will incorporate piped oxygen for all the beds along with medical air and suction.
Ministry of Health revealed that these incentives are taken under efforts to expand healthcare services and strengthen the health sector.
