The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has said the newly launched Male' Taxi Line service has received an overwhelmingly positive response since its introduction.
Responding to a question from PSM News during a press conference at the President's Office, the minister shared statistics on the performance of the service.
The Economic Minister Saeed said 528 people have used the Male' Taxi Line service in Vilimalé since it was launched on 18 June. He added that between 22 and 28 June, a total of 6,912 passengers used the service across the Greater Malé region, with 3,569 trips made within Malé.
During the same period, 6,112 passengers booked taxis through the web booking platform, while a further 800 used the call centre.
The minister also highlighted the efficiency of the call centre, stating that during peak hours, customer calls are answered and processed within five to six minutes. During off-peak hours, response times are reduced to between three and four minutes.
"We have benchmarks in place to ensure calls are attended to quickly and service is provided promptly. Similarly, taxi drivers are also undergoing specialised training," Minister Saeed said.
To make bookings more convenient, MTCC has integrated digital technology into the service. The Male' Taxi Line application has been available on the Apple App Store since 2 June and on the Google Play Store since 4 June.
In addition to the mobile application, customers can also book taxis by calling the dedicated hotline on 1655.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed said the government is continuing to work on a broader strategy to address transportation challenges in the Greater Malé region. He said various authorities are collaborating to develop a comprehensive plan that will address transport-related issues, including parking and road management.
The Male' Taxi Line service was introduced under the guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu with the aim of providing a comprehensive solution to transportation challenges faced by residents of the Greater Malé area.
