Maldives declares April 10 as Eid-ul-Fitr

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially declared that Eid-ul-Fitr marks on and will be colourfully celebrated on April 10.

The announcement was made following the resolution issued by the Committee under the ministry. The resolution was issued on a special ceremony held by the ministry and the members of the committee aiming to glimpse or spot the moon. While publicising the statement, Member of the Committee Dr. Moosa Anwar Hassan revealed that the moon had not been in sight for any other Islamic countries since the sunset of April 8. Additionally, he disclosed that the moon will not appear to be visible in any Islamic countries, citing reliable astronomical data obtained.

The government's significant preparation and efforts to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr can be observed, as it has decided to commemorate the occasion in various parts of the country. This includes the decorations of roads utilising lights that symbolise Islamic slogans in cities and islands, in addition to Eid decorations set up in Male' City and Hulhumale'.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims observe fasting for a month.
