Efforts underway to facilitate easy access to passport in cities and atolls

The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has announced a significant enhancement in public accessibility by enabling passport issuance through city and atoll councils.

During a press conference, Minister Adam Shareef Umar emphasised the alignment of this initiative with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's directive to improve public accessibility. He outlined the phased expansion of passport issuance services to city and atoll council offices, with several councils already expressing interest. Minister Umar underscored the empowerment this initiative provides to local councils.

Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Sham'aan Waheed reiterated President Dr. Muizzu's commitment to making passport services more affordable and accessible. He highlighted the financial burden faced by individuals traveling to Male' City for passport acquisition, emphasizing that the current expenses often exceed the passport's actual cost.

Sham'aan also emphasized the long-term financial and time-saving benefits of President Dr. Muizzu's decision. He pointed out the substantial monthly expenses and time investment for individuals traveling to Male' for passport services.

Immigration authorities are proactively undertaking administrative preparations, including staff recruitment and the phased establishment of passport service offices, to ensure the efficient implementation of this initiative.
