Mayor pledges to establish a system to eradicate garbage dumping

Mayor of Male' City Adam Azim has announced the initiation of a system to address the issue of illegal dumping of garbage in various parts of the city. The announcement comes in response to a surge in waste disposal on roads and streets by individuals, particularly in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

Mayor Azim, addressing the problem, noted that a significant portion of the garbage dumped on the streets is done by foreigners. He emphasised that many of these individuals are illegal immigrants, making it challenging to take legal action against them due to the lack of documentation or paperwork.

To address this issue, Mayor Azim pledged to establish a system within the next two or three months, providing a permanent solution rather than a temporary, quick fix. He aims to ensure the sustainability of the solution.

Further, the mayor stressed the importance of enforcing existing laws to tackle the problem effectively. He has been advocating for the enforcement of laws and emphasised that without legal measures, the issue cannot be resolved satisfactorily.

Mayor Azim also mentioned that he has urged relevant authorities to take action against unauthorised immigrants contributing to the problem. He called for collective efforts to address the issue and emphasized the individual responsibility of citizens in maintaining a clean environment.
