History is vital for future shaping: Gov't

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has likened ignorance of history to a fruitless tree, underscoring its essential role in shaping the future. He made the statement on the occasion of National History Day.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Naseer stressed the universal importance of historical knowledge, highlighting its role in shaping societies and ensuring their safety. He lamented the lack of comprehensive efforts in teaching history to students and youth, noting a deficiency in the educational system.

Additionally, Minister Naseer advocated for a more dynamic approach to teaching history, exploring various perspectives and utilising modern tools like filmmaking to engage learners effectively.

National History Day is held annually on February 27 in the Maldives. The day serves as a reminder of the nation's rich heritage and the pivotal role history plays in shaping its trajectory. With a history spanning millennia, the Maldives holds a treasure trove of experiences that contribute to its cultural identity and collective destiny.
