Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts Ibrahim Waheed has announced plans to train over 500 young individuals in technology-related fields. The announcement was made during a ceremony held to launch a special plan to develop skills and create opportunities for Maldivian youth to excel in the global coding market.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Waheed emphasised that the youth constitute 35% of the population and underscored the government's commitment to providing diverse opportunities for their advancement across various sectors. Emphasising the pivotal role of youth in the Maldives, he stressed the necessity of training and empowerment initiatives at both national and international levels.
Additionally, Minister Waheed highlighted the tech-savvy nature of the youth, noting that the initiative aims to realise their aspirations by exploring opportunities in the technology sector. He outlined plans to train more than 500 young individuals in technology-related fields over the next five years, with a focus on education and training in information technology and technical domains.
Furthermore, Minister Waheed expressed plans to make the upcoming five years unprecedented in terms of developing the skills crucial for the youth, surpassing the efforts of previous governments. He highlighted the importance of building the youth for various sectors as an investment in the development of the country. He added that the President has given special priority to provide more business opportunities for women and empower the youth in the field of technology, which is an important step to familiarize them with technical work.
