Maldives participates in 154th Session of WHO Executive Board

The Maldives is participating in the 154th Session of WHO Executive Board. Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel is participating in the session held in Geneva, Switzerland from January 22-27 with senior officials of the health ministry.

Minister Khaleel is also holding meetings with counterparts from other nations at the sidelines of the session. He recently met with assistant Minister for Global Health and Welfare of Health Japan, Dr Hinoshita Eiji and discussed potential technical support in preventive health, mental health, elderly care, and capacity building.

The Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and to advise and generally facilitate its work. The Maldives' current term at the WHO Executive Board from May 2022 – May 2025.

During the session, the Executive Board members will develop a provisional agenda for the 77th session of the World Health Assembly, which takes place in May. Members of the Board will also discuss over 40 health topics, including WHO’s 14th General Programme of Work, health emergency prevention, preparedness and response, accelerating national and global responses to antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of climate change on health, among other priority issues.
