President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that the air ambulance service will be expanded to Thailand.
Speaking to the media following his state visit to China, President Muizzu highlighted that the air ambulance service will be launched in March, adding that it will be expanded to countries where healthcare services are typically beyond reach for Maldivians. As such, he said that the air ambulance will be able to transport patients from the northern and southern region to Male' in a short period of time as well as transport patients abroad to Thailand using a Dash-8 aircraft.
Additionally, President Muizzu said that instead of relying on a particular country for health services, the government will provide Maldivians access to services from countries that have worldclass healthcare. As such, he said that Maldivians will receive free medical treatment from developed countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand.
Furthermore, President Muizzu pledged to facilitate the direct importation of high-quality medicines from countries, steering away from the importation of ordinary medications. As such, he said that medicines will soon be directly imported from manufacturers in Europe and the United States. The President expects these changes to address the corruption in the importation of medicines and doubts about their authenticity and quality.
