President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to allocate all official Hajj quotas granted to the Maldives each year to the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited. This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs during a Cabinet meeting.
Presently, 6,000 pilgrims are registered in the Hajj Corporation queue to perform the pilgrimage, of which 4,706 have made their payments. The Cabinet deliberated allocating the official Hajj quotas administered to the Maldives annually to Hajj Corporation to avoid prolonging their wait, improve the quality of service, and increase the general public's confidence in the quality of service provided by the company.
In recent years, the Maldives Hajj Mission and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs have received complaints concerning the quality of services provided by various companies transporting pilgrims, including allegations of overcharging. This measure intends to facilitate Maldivian pilgrims performing the Hajj more conveniently.
