The Maldives and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have discussed strengthening their relationship and exploring new avenues of cooperation. The discussion was held during a meeting between Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the WTO.
During the meeting, Vice President Latheef expressed appreciation for the technical support of the WTO to the Maldives and highlighted the government's commitment for further cooperation and collaboration. He spoke on the importance of restructuring the debt of the Maldives and discussed ways to increase the inflow foreign direct investment into the country.
Vice President Latheef is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75). The Maldives became a member of WTO in 1995.
