School students chosen as traffic monitors

Students of Izzudheen School and Dharumavantha School have been chosen as traffic monitors. They were trained in the Traffic Monitors programme and were given certificates and tags at the closing ceremony by Vice President Faisal Naseem.

Vice President Naseem attended the closing ceremony of the 85th and 86th Traffic Monitors programme, which aims to build a generation of road safety advocates and educate students on the Traffic Act and law. The programme is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

A total of 51 students from Izzudheen School and Dharumavantha School were trained to become traffic monitors. This was the first time Izzudheen School participated in the programme. Since its inception in 2014, the programme has trained 2,735 students.

During the closing ceremony, a special plaque was presented to Vice President Naseem in recognition of his efforts to reduce road accidents. In his speech, he said that the number of accidents has exceeded 18,000 in the past five years, including accidents on the road and at sea. He urged the students to make use of that they learned from the training programme and to obey the traffic regulations.
