Parliamentarian Naseem joins PNC

Parliamentarian Ibrahim Naseem has joined the People's National Congress (PNC). He is the parliamentary representative of the Thulusdhoo Constituency in Kaafu Atoll.

Parliamentarian Naseem was elected as an independent member. PNC now consists of nine representatives in Parliament with the addition of Naseem, who joined the party as the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) prepares for the parliamentary election scheduled for April next year. The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and the opposition coalition of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and PNC have announced the intention to contest all seats in the election.

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from PNC has expressed his hope that the opposition coalition would receive a super-majority in the parliamentary election, highlighting the importance of the Parliament in improving the country's economic and foreign policy. He said that his administration can only move forward efficiently with a majority, adding that he aims to win more than 60 seats in the election.
