The Parliament of the Maldives has opened for public comments on whether Ali Nashath should be given another term at the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM). His term expired on July 25, 2022.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sent a letter to the Parliament on May 29 seeking approval to appoint him for another term. The matter was referred to the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions for consideration.
The Parliament said any complaints on Nashath should be sent to the committee via email or in written form before 1400hrs on October 17. As such, submissions should include the full name, permanent address, and contact number of the individual who submitted the complaint.
ECM currently comprises four members. They are the President of ECM Fuad Thaufeeq, the Vice President of ECM Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, and members Dr. Mohamed Zahir and Mohamed Asif.
